A Parent's Role in the History Day Program
A critical dimension of effective learning is parent involvement. Research has shown conclusively that parent involvement
at home in their children's education improves student achievement.
Parents play an important role in their child's successful History Day experience. The most important role is to give your
child encouragement and support.
Why Should Your Child Participate?
• History Day makes learning fun. Students choose a topic they want to learn more about.
• Students develop historical research, critical thinking, and communication skills that will help them throughout
life.
• Participating gives students a creative outlet for their work, allowing them to use their artistic, dramatic,
literary, and musical abilities.
• A History Day project can be self-validating and exciting because it builds self-esteem, poise, and confidence.
